In a remarkable initiative, the Victoria ‘Artcade’ is opening its doors for free to seniors and post-secondary students on specific days over the next couple of months. This interactive art and music venue, found in the heart of downtown Victoria, promises an engaging experience without any cost on select Thursdays: January 29, February 26, and March 26, from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Located at 706 Fort Street, the Artcade offers a unique, hands-on approach to art and music that doesn’t rely on screens. Visitors can immerse themselves in creative displays featuring various interactive elements. Imagine turning dials, pressing buttons, and stepping on platforms as you engage with the art in imaginative ways—it's all about exploration and interaction.

This opportunity for free admission aligns perfectly with the upcoming launch of a significant expansion project known as the “Alien Lab.” Set to debut later this spring, this new addition will span 1,000 square feet and occupy the former site of Steveson’s Shoe Clinic, which closed its doors after nearly a century of service. The Alien Lab will feature innovative rooms and musical machines designed to enhance the visitor experience even further.
The expansion is touted as Monkey C Interactive’s most ambitious project to date. According to Scott Amos, co-founder of Monkey C, "Alien Lab is about pushing curiosity even further. It’s a space for experimentation, wonder, and joyful noise." This exciting development is being supported in part by the City of Victoria’s Storefront Activation Program, alongside collaboration with Creative BC and the British Columbia Arts Council.
If you’re a local, you might already be familiar with Monkey C's previous projects, such as their musical handrails, which were installed at the Yates Street parkade. This initiative adds yet another layer to the city's artistic landscape.
